Marlow Navigation recruits graduating Maritime, HRM and HM students

Legazpi City, Albay – A qualifying examination was conducted by the European shipping company Marlow Navigation in Legazpi City, Albay for graduating Maritime, Hotel and Restaurant Management (HRM) and Hospitality Management (HM) students.

Graduating students taking up Maritime, HRM and HM courses take the qualifying examination at the JC Jimenez Gymnasium at the Mariners Annex Campus in Legazpi City, Albay. In the foreground, proctoring the examinees is Marlow Navigation’s PO Training Manager Mr. Dan Tolentino.

Those taking-up these courses from Mariners Polytechnic Colleges Foundation (MPCF) this province and HRM/HM students from Mariners Polytechnic Colleges in Naga City took the examination on July 23, 2015 at the Legazpi annex campus in Bgy. Rawis.

This trend in which shipping companies come to the school to recruit graduating students has become a common sight after the Commission on Higher Education (CHEd), the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) and the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) have granted accreditation to the Mariners Schools (in Legazpi City and Canaman, Camarines Sur) as among the top 23 Higher Maritime Education Institutions (HMEI’s) in the Philippines.

Aside from those taking-up maritime courses, the shipping company has also given qualifying examination to Students from MPCF-Legazpi’s sister school – the Mariners Polytechnic Colleges in Naga City, who are taking up HRM and HM courses.

Two days before going to Legazpi City, Marlow Navigation’s team led by company representative Mr. Kuido Naaber, joined by PO Training Program Manager Dan Tolentino and Senior Faculty Member at the United Marine Training Center - Ms. Sharon Agawin, gave a similar test to students of Mariners Polytechnic Colleges Foundation (MPCF) in Canaman, Camarines Sur. Jobs await those who will pass the test once they have finished their college degrees.

It is noted that not only this company have come to the Mariners schools to recruit neophyte Seafarers but several other international maritime firms have sent their respective representatives and have done the same.

“With this development, the challenge to continue to improve the academic standing of the school remains in the shoulders of the administration and the faculty. Our task here is not only to have updated equipment and maritime laboratories used but also to have qualified maritime instructors who can mentor the students in the standard set by these international shipping companies”, declared MPCF Chief Executive Officer and President, Commodore Dante La. Jimenez.
