MPCF Legazpi’s Mariners’ Collegian gets top honors in Regional Press Conference challenge
Iriga City – The administration of Mariners Polytechnic Colleges Foundation (MPCF), Legazpi City congratulates the staff of the student publication ‘Mariners’ Collegian’ for having garnered the top honors in the recently concluded 15th Region V Tertiary Schools Press Conference held at the University of St. Anthony (USANT), this city from January 7 to 9, 2015.

This was announced by Executive Assistant to the President Ms. Lydia Cervantes who said “The Institution is proud of this achievement reached by the men and women behind this student publication. This reflects the school’s determination for students to excel in whatever endeavor they are in. This feat inspires not only the students but the faculty and staff, as well”.

With this triumph, the team of Mariners’ Collegian hopes to further polish their skills in campus journalism as they continue to prepare for similar competitions in the near future.

Jimenez upon learning that the school team got the top honors in the 15th Region V Tertiary Schools Press Conference held in Iriga City.
TEAM MARINERS HAILED CHAMPION ONCE AGAIN
Legazpi City, Albay - Last December 17, 2014, Mariners' Polytechnic Colleges Foundation defended its title in the annual Karangahan Festival's Dish is It: Albay Culinaria Schools Battle III held at Embarcadero De Legazpi. This was also participated by Bicol College, Infotech Development Systems College, Apicius Culinary Arts and Hotel Management, Aquinas University of Legazpi, and other Albay Culinary Schools.
Categories include Fruit and Vegetable carving, Table Skirting and Centerpiece Making, Hour d'vres, Dessert Plating, Flairtending, Main Dish, and Cake Decorating. Of the 7 categories, Team Mariners got five champion titles and one 1st place. Here are the results of the team and the participating students:
- CHAMPION-Fruit and Vegetable Carving by Johanna Sabariza
- CHAMPION-Table Skirting and Centerpiece Making by Jennelyn Balon and Ma. Kaitlin Joy Villacorta
- CHAMPION-Hour d'vres by Vijay Carl Sabas
- CHAMPION-Dessert Plating by Micheal Kevin Lopez
- CHAMPION-FlairBartending by Patrick John Catiis
- 1ST RUNNER UP-Main Dish by Kevin Portuguez
- Cake Decorating by Athena Sanchez
The coaches in the recent event are Ms. Venafe Rebancos, Ms. Ma. Jane E. Chan, Mr. Webster Toledo, Ms. Minerva Vibar, Mr. Jayson N. Napili, Ms. Irene Mayores, and the Head of the HRM Department Mrs. Florivel Villacorta.
It can be recalled that Team Mariners was also hailed overall champion last 2013 (Champion in Table Skirting and Centerpiece, Bartending and the Fruit and Vegetable Carving, First Runner-up in the Cup Cake Decorating, and Second Runner-up in the Latte Art, Coffee with Foam and Food and Beverage) and 2012 (Champion in Fruit and Vegetable Carving, Latte Art, Cooking Showdown, Flair Bartending, 1st Runner Up in Cupcake Decorating, Plated Dessert). Aside from the Karangahan Festival events, Team Mariners HRM/HM Department was also declared if not Champion, a major awardee, during Regional Inter-School Skills Competition, TESDA Skills Competition, Bicol Culinary Festivals, Pili Kulinarya Roadshows, and other culinary-hoteliers contests.
These are proofs that the HRM/HM students of Mariners' Polytechnic Colleges Foundation are provided with quality education and excellent training on the different fields of Hotel and Restaurant Management. Kudos Marineros!###
