The Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) held its annual Fellowship Night to honor maritime stakeholders and industry champions who have significantly contributed to the development of the Philippine maritime sector. The event also served as a moment of recognition within the maritime community in line with the goals of National Maritime Week 2025.

During the celebration, Mariners Polytechnic Colleges Foundation – Legazpi City (MPCF-LC) proudly received the Award for Leadership and Innovation in Maritime for its flagship initiative, the “SHE TO SEA” Program, a pioneering effort that promotes women empowerment, inclusivity, and sustainability in the maritime industry.

With its remarkable showing in both the cultural and military competitions, the institution proudly brought home multiple awards that highlighted the school’s trademark discipline, artistry, and excellence.

Manila, Philippines — The Philippines continues to make its mark on the global fashion stage as Mara J San Pedro, a rising Filipino designer, proudly represented the country as one of the finalists in the Redress Design Award 2025, the world’s largest competition dedicated to
sustainable fashion. San Pedro received the distinguished People’s Choice Award during the 15th Edition runway show at Hongkong Convention Center last September 4 , a testament to her originality, artistry, and strong advocacy for environmentally responsible design. Top prize was awarded jointly to Hugo Dumas from France and Carla Zhang from Mainland China from the 10 Finalists worldwide.

Mariners’ Polytechnic Colleges Foundation – Legazpi City (MPCF-LC) reached a historic milestone on August 4, 2025, marking its 40th Founding Anniversary with a grand Ruby Gala at the Vela Hotel, Legazpi City. The celebration gathered a distinguished crowd of alumni, faculty, staff, industry partners, government officials, and friends of the institution, all united under the banner of the anniversary theme: “Mariners’ Legazpi: 40 Years of Charting Success, Navigating a Better Future Together.”

The evening began with a warm welcome to esteemed guests, including Guest of Honor Albay Governor Noel E. Rosal, who joined the Board of Trustees, management committees, and representatives from Mariners’ sister schools in Canaman and Naga. The event’s program consisted of recognitions, cultural showcases, and heartfelt tributes to create a night that celebrated both the institution’s rich history and its aspirations for the future.
Mariners Polytechnic Colleges Foundation (MPCF) - Legazpi City held its 8th Senior High School Commencement Exercises. With the theme “Henerasyon ng Pagkakaisa: Kaagapay sa Bagong Pilipinas,” the ceremony honored the academic achievements and inspiring journeys of the graduating Class of 2025.
Family members, faculty, administrators, and distinguished guests gathered in support as the graduates culminated their two-year journey of hard work, resilience, and self-discovery.

MPCF-Legazpi President Merle Jimenez-San Pedro delivered an uplifting message, commending the graduates for their determination amid challenges and calling on them to serve as torchbearers of unity and positive change. “Let your journey ahead be filled with purpose and compassion. Be bold in the face of adversity, be kind in your successes, and be united in your dreams for a better Philippines.”
On March 31, 2025, Mariners' Polytechnic Colleges Foundation-Legazpi City held the Blessing of the Audio-Visual Learning Resource Hall & DLJ Multipurpose Building in a two-part ceremony at Mariners’ by the Sea (MBS) and the main campus.
The event began with the blessing of the DLJ Multipurpose Building at MBS, led by the officiating priest, Rev. Fr. Andro de Vera, with prayers of dedication, symbolic acts, and a candle-lighting ceremony.

Mariners’ Polytechnic Colleges Foundation Legazpi City (MPCF-LC) successfully underwent an SGS audit from March 10 to 13, 2025, reaffirming its commitment to maintaining quality education and institutional excellence. The audit, a crucial part of the school’s quality assurance efforts, covered various offices, including Administration, Student Affairs Services (SAS), and other key departments, ensuring compliance with ISO 9001:2015 standards. This rigorous evaluation reflects the institution’s dedication to continuously improving its systems and processes to provide a high standard of service to students and stakeholders.

Mariners’ Polytechnic Colleges Foundation Legazpi City (MPCF-LC) marked the celebration of Women’s Month with the soft launch of ‘BOOKLATAN sa MARINERS’ on March 7, 2025, at Mariners’ Café. This initiative was designed to foster a greater appreciation for reading, encourage critical thinking, and create a space where students and faculty could engage in meaningful discourse through literature. By providing access to a diverse collection of books and reading materials, the program aims to cultivate a culture of learning that extends beyond the classroom. It also serves as an avenue for students to develop their communication skills and broaden their perspectives through storytelling and shared knowledge.

Merle Jimenez-San Pedro, President of Women in Maritime (WIMA) Asia and WIMA Philippines, as well as President of Mariners Polytechnic Colleges Foundation – Legazpi City, participated in a side event of the 12th Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development (APFSD) on 28 February 2025 in Bangkok, Thailand.
The APFSD, organized annually by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), serves as a regional platform for reviewing progress on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This year’s forum focused on advancing economic resilience, inclusive growth, and sustainable development, particularly for women and marginalized sectors.

The 50th Annual Convention of the Philippine Association of Maritime Institutions (PAMI) was successfully held from February 19 to 21, 2025, at the Maritime Academy of Asia and the Pacific (MAAP) in Mariveles, Bataan. The event brought together maritime educators, industry leaders, and technology experts to discuss the theme, Redefining Maritime Academic Leadership Toward Innovation and Digital Transformation. The discussions focused on the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) and digital learning platforms in maritime education, emphasizing their role in enhancing student engagement, automating administrative tasks, and ensuring quality education delivery.

Mariners' Polytechnic Colleges Foundation of Legazpi City (MPCF-LC) has taken another significant step in strengthening its commitment to produce globally competitive maritime professionals through a new partnership with Dalisay Shipping Corporation (DSC). This is in line with the vision of MPCF-LC President Merle Jimenez-San Pedro’s 10-Point Agenda, which aims to create a holistic and dynamic academic environment and expand linkages for sustainability. The two institutions formalized their collaboration with a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signing ceremony on January 17, 2024, at the MPCF-LC Accreditation Room.
